Frequently asked questions
This section provides clear answers to common questions about the counselling process, confidentiality, session structure, fees, and what you can expect when beginning therapy with me. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Counselling provides a safe and supportive environment to explore your feelings, identify challenges, and develop strategies for improvement. Sessions are tailored to your needs and paced according to your comfort.
I offer integrative counselling, drawing on Person-Centred Therapy (PCT), Transactional Analysis (TA), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I also offer Single Session Therapy (ONEplus) as a standalone service. The approach I use is tailored to each client — I don’t apply a fixed formula.
Online sessions: £55 per 50 minutes. In-person sessions (Manchester): £60 per 50 minutes. Single Session Therapy: £95 for all three steps (questionnaire, 50-minute session, follow-up call). A concession rate is available for weekly online sessions in the morning slots (Tuesday and Thursday, 9am–1pm). A prepaid monthly block of sessions is available at a reduced rate. Please get in touch to discuss either of these.
Monday: in-person, 15:00–21:00 at Bodywise, M4 1DZ Tuesday: online, 07:00–20:00 Wednesday: online, 09:00–20:00 Thursday: online, 07:00–20:00 Friday: online, 09:00–15:00
Yes. You can choose to switch between online and face-to-face sessions depending on your circumstances, subject to availability. Monday afternoon slots are reserved for in-person sessions. If you are booked for an in-person session but need to attend online at short notice, I will accommodate that where I can.
In the first session we’ll discuss what’s brought you to counselling, what you’re hoping to get from it, and what the work might look like. We’ll also cover practicalities — confidentiality, how sessions work, what to do if you need to cancel. There’s no pressure to share more than feels comfortable. It’s also a chance for you to get a sense of whether working with me feels right.
You can get in touch via the contact form on this website, by email at hello@ggcounselling.uk, or by phone on 0734 093 2656. I aim to respond within 24 hours. We’ll arrange a free 20-minute consultation call first — this is a no-obligation conversation to discuss what you’re looking for and whether I can help.
Yes. I’m happy to receive referrals from GPs, psychiatrists, or other professionals, and to work collaboratively with other members of a client’s care team where that is appropriate and the client consents.
Integrative counselling combines elements from different therapeutic approaches rather than following a single model. In my practice, this means drawing on Person-Centred Therapy, Transactional Analysis, and CBT — using whichever combination is most useful for a particular client at a particular point in the work. The approach is tailored rather than prescribed.
Yes. Everything discussed in sessions is confidential. The exceptions are limited: if I believe there is a serious and immediate risk of harm to you or to another person, I may need to take action — but this is something we discuss fully in the first session, and it applies only in genuinely exceptional circumstances. My practice complies with BACP ethical guidelines and GDPR.
At Bodywise / Buddhist Centre, 16–20 Turner Street, Manchester M4 1DZ. Five minutes’ walk from Market Street tram stop and from Shudehill tram stop / bus station. Five to ten minutes from Piccadilly Gardens. Street parking available on neighbouring roads.
Sessions are 50 minutes. If a session is due to start at 3pm and the client arrives at 3:15pm, the session will still end at 3:50pm — out of fairness to all clients.
Single Session Therapy (also called ONEplus therapy) is a focused, three-step approach: a short preparatory questionnaire, a 50-minute session, and a follow-up call a couple of weeks later. It is designed for people who want to address a specific issue without committing to ongoing therapy. You can read more on the Single Session Therapy page.
I ask for 48 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice are charged at the full fee. If something comes up unexpectedly, please get in touch as early as possible.
By bank transfer in advance, or in cash at the start of an in-person session. Bank details are included in the therapy agreement sent before the first session.
